In China (full time)
While working at the USDA Beijing Office as an Agricultural Specialist & Translator, my major duties and responsibilities were:
Reporting:
- Reviewed broad range of Chinese language publications and selected key articles on Chinese agricultural policies, agricultural markets and food distribution which would be of interest to USDA officials in Washington.
- Prepared English summaries of selected articles and formatted weekly newsletter for submission to FAS/Washington.
- Analyzed trade data and prepared reports for FAS/Washington on agricultural production, consumption and trade.
Translating and Interpreting:
- Translated a wide range of articles including regulations, laws and technical documents, from English into Chinese and from Chinese into English.
- Provided two-way interpretation for USDA officials and business executives during meetings, negotiations and other official functions, such as technical conferences or workshops.
- Interpretation was provided up to the level of Ambassador and Governor.
In the U.S. (both full time and part time)
Translation
While working at the Center for Non-Proliferation Studies (9/2000 - 5/2002, 10-20 hours per week), I translated technical documents and conference reports on arms control from English to Chinese as well as from Chinese into English.
While working at Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC), Needham, MA, as a full time Localization Intern (6/2001 - 8/2001), I accomplished the following:
- Created Pro/ENGINEER 2001 software Online Help master TM by using Trados Workbench.
- Created three printed books (including Release Notes and Installation Guide) master TM.
- Translated/proofread marketing documents such as copyright and license agreements.
- Translated software imd files and updated TM.
- Proofread DTP formatted MCAD Training Guides.
- Tested character display by using Trados MultiTerm and Trados TagEditor.
